Founded in 1986 in Queens, New York, Sabra Dipping Company is the leader in the refrigerated dips and spreads category and producer of America's top-selling hummus. Sabra's award-winning products offer consumers fresh new ways of eating and connecting and include more than a dozen flavors of hummus and a wide range of refrigerated dips and spreads including salsa, guacamole and Greek yogurt dip. Sabra's range of offerings includes items that are non-GMO, vegetarian, gluten-free, kosher and vegan and can be found nationwide in club stores, supermarkets, specialty retailers and through food service.

Sabra is now headquartered in White Plains, New York and operates a Gold LEED-certified factory in Richmond, Virginia. In the US we also have factories in Oceanside, California & Farmingdale, New York.

It’s been 30 years since our first bowl of hummus, but we’re still just getting started. Sabra Dipping Company was formed as a U.S./Canadian joint venture between Strauss Group and PepsiCo. The Sabra joint venture draws on both Frito-Lay, a division of PepsiCo, and Strauss Group's expertise to continue building this growing business.

Our Social Responsibility

We at Sabra are not only committed to the products we create, but to the people, places, and environment that help us along our adventure. It’s our firm belief that our corporate social responsibility directly impacts our future, which is why we are committed to helping our environment, caring for our community and staff, and promoting better nutrition.

Our "Plants with a Purpose" initiative is a community engagement mission dedicated to helping alleviate the impact of Food Deserts in the U.S. Food Deserts, as defined by the USDA, are neighborhoods and towns without ready access to fresh, healthy, affordable food (specifically fruits and vegetables). It is estimated that more than 23 million Americans live in impacted areas. Sabra Dipping Company is the maker of America's best-selling hummus and a range of dips and spreads, and this program aligns with their vision of bringing people together through fresh food experiences.

The Plants with a Purpose initiative has taken root with a pilot program in the company's backyard in Richmond and Chesterfield County, VA, through the establishment of an organic employee work-share garden on Sabra's campus, home to the company's Gold LEED certified hummus-manufacturing facility. In comparison to areas of similar size, shockingly, Richmond has been described as the largest food desert in the country. Sabra employs more than 600 professionals at its Virginia facility. The on-site garden and associated support for community engagement, nutrition and culinary education programming is being coordinated at launch in collaboration with Renew Richmond, a non-profit dedicated to urban agriculture in underserved Richmond, VA, communities. The efforts leverage Sabra's nutrition and culinary expertise while fostering and furthering community driven initiatives.

The pilot is the first step in a long-term initiative that we expect to expand over time.

Preserving Our Planet

When you’re inspired by the different flavors of the world, as we are, it’s hard not to be a little inspired by the world itself. Which is why we at Sabra feel a responsibility to the environment and our planet.

We’ve taken great strides to make our company as eco-friendly as possible. Take, for example, our Gold LEED-certified plant in Richmond, Virginia. 20% of the building is constructed from recycled materials and almost all of the construction waste materials will be recycled. To make the plant as energy efficient as possible, we will implement innovative and eco-friendly designs like a reflective roof that cuts our cooling needs and heat recovery systems that cut our heating needs. In fact, at least 35% of the building’s energy will come from renewable resources. That’s equivalent to offsetting the yearly electricity use of 573 households a year!

But of course having an eco-friendly facility doesn’t mean much if what you produce isn’t also environmentally friendly. That's why we’ve invested three years into developing new packaging for all our products. Sabra’s new packaging is made from 30-45% post consumer recycled plastic. That change itself saves 325,000 gallons of gasoline and 319 metric tons of carbon a year. All of which is proof that although our package lid maybe be red, we’re doing a lot to be green.
